About Beth
I have over twenty five years’ experience of working with children and families. My background is in teaching, ranging from early childhood through to the intermediate years. Including twelve years working with students with specific learning needs. I am a mother and a grandmother.
My caring and compassionate nature combined with a great sense of humour promotes easy engagement with children, teenagers, adults and families. I am particularly passionate about helping families to have satisfying and enjoyable relationships with each other and to support them to grow the skills necessary to achieve this.
For me communication skills are fundamental to the success of any relationship and I see my role as enabling family members to grow in their understanding, appreciation and respect of each other.
My training is in Person Centred Counselling and I incorporate different approaches, including Narrative, Solution Focussed and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies as well as Mindfulness.
As a child and family counsellor I have worked in schools and in community and non-government agencies. I have enjoyed my counselling role with the ‘Family Works’ team at Presbyterian Support where I have worked for the past five years.
I have previously worked at ‘The Women’s Centre’ where I valued the opportunity to walk alongside women supporting and facilitating them to make positive and effective changes in their lives.
I am trained in ‘The Incredible Years’ parenting programme and I have co-facilitated the ‘Parenting Through Separation’ courses through the Ministry of Justice.
